Villages in Cambridgeshire
There are many excellent villages surrounding Cambridge, if you’re new to the area, it’s useful to write down your top priorities for the location of your new home, and then assess which area of the Cambridge surrounds will work for you.
Commuting into the city via car is easier from certain directions and many choose to use a park and ride, such as the ones at Madingley and Trumpington.
If you’re looking to commute by train to Cambridge or London from your village you’ll need to factor accessibility and journey times. Waterbeach is a large village to the north of Cambridge, the fast train to London Kings Cross from Waterbeach takes just over an hour.
To the south of Cambridge the village of Whittlesford has several pubs, a small shop and a post office. Trains from Whittlesford Parkway station to London Liverpool Street take a little over an hour or just 10 minutes into Cambridge.
With Cambridge university at its heart, the city of Cambridge unsurprisingly has excellent state and independent schools and this high quality of schooling continues out into the surrounding villages.
Much of a village’s popularity is driven by school catchment, such as the village of Comberton, very popular with families due to the top rated secondary school, Comberton Village College and its array of other family friendly amenities.
Living in Ely
Ely is very popular with our clients who work in Cambridge, it’s 25 minutes to Cambridge by car and around 15-20 minutes by train. This closeness to Cambridge is what appeals so greatly, residents can enjoy countryside living but still easily drop into a bustling city.
Not without its own merits, Ely city centre has independent shops, as well as chain stores and there are many cafes, pubs and restaurants. The city has regular farmers markets at Ely Market Place and the Fen Nature reserve is only a short drive away.
The most highly sought after property in Ely surrounds the cathedral. Property types are typically period, with Georgian and Queen Anne town houses and cottages and terraced houses towards Ely train station.

Commuting from Huntingdon
Huntingdon and the surrounding villages are popular with commuters, the train journey into London Kings Cross from Huntingdon takes just 48 minutes.
People often choose to live in nearby villages such as Brampton, Godmanchester, Hemingford Abbots and drive into Huntingdon to catch the train.
